Carpentry Diy

If you are interested in carpentry diy projects, it helps to have the right resources in your corner. DIY stands for do it yourself, which is no big deal if you are a professional carpenter but exponentially more challenging if you are an amateur with little to no experience. Luckily there are all kinds of resources including books, magazines, videos, software programs and more designed especially for the do it yourself carpenter.

At the library or bookstore you will find lots of titles geared towards the do it yourself carpenter. One book you may want to check out is The Complete Guide to Home Carpentry: Carpentry Skills and Projects for Homeowners by Creative Publishing International. This title is part of the Black and Decker Home Improvement Library and is packed with useful info and colorful illustrations. You might also want to take a look at Homebuilding Basics Carpentry by Larry Haun for more helpful information.

You may prefer to learn by watching a DVD rather than reading a book. There are a wide variety of woodworking and carpentry DVDs available. These give you the benefit of watching someone else complete a task before trying to do it yourself. One general title is How to DIY: Carpentry. While this title is quite broad in focus there are others geared towards a particular aspect of carpentry. One example is Installing Doors and Windows with Tom Law. There are even DVDs designed to help you learn how to use your carpentry tools, such as Mastering Your Bandsaw.

Then there are handy software programs that help you with any carpentry diy project you want to do. Master Carpenter is made by Renaissance Software and helps you calculate data such as board feet, spacing, concrete volumes, survey angles and so much more. A great thing about this program is that it was developed with the help of actual carpenters who gave their input on what was most needed from such a software program. It is the perfect problem solver for a variety of tricky carpentry problems and a must have for any do it yourself carpenter. As you can see there are all kinds of helpful resources available for anyone who wants to learn more about carpentry.
