Finish Trim Carpentry Instructions
Trim carpentry is a type of carpentry that includes finishing touches on a home or building including the wood trim, cabinets and other visible items. Also sometimes called finish carpentry, trim carpentry requires a certain level of skill. While there are thousands of trim carpenters around the country many homeowners decide to do the job on their own. Finish trim carpentry instructions can help you get through a basic project such as installing baseboards or cabinet doors. Whether or not you can do this depends on how handy you are with wood and tools.
There are some universal instructions and tips that can help you succeed with any carpentry project. For example, the number one tip you should remember is measure twice and cut once. While there are plenty of high tech tools that do the measuring for you, it is still necessary to have a rudimentary grasp on geometry and basic math. The tools you use also have a lot to do with your success. For example, if your project involves a lot of nailing consider a nail gun as opposed to doing all the work by hand. Power tools can help you do the job in less time with less effort.
On the subject of tools, there are some basic items that every carpenter needs. A miter saw, circular saw, router, protractor, sander and cordless power drill are essential items that you will need in your workshop. Of course you may need other tools, it all depends on the projects you are doing. If you are a homeowner who wants to do a carpentry project on your own, you will definitely need some good resources to refer to. Luckily there are plenty of books and DVDs that can teach you everything you need to know about trim carpentry.
The following books will provide you with finish trim carpentry instructions, tips and guidelines: Trim Idea Book by Mary Ellen Polson, Precision Trim Carpentry by Rick Williams, Guide to Trim Carpentry by Creative Homeowner Press and Finish Carpentry: Custom Techniques by Gary Katz. Then there are DVDs made on this subject that can also be very helpful, such as How to DIY: Carpentry. While this title is more general in nature it still provides useful information for those working on trim carpentry projects.
